Reporting Systems

OUR REPORTING SYSTEMS

We produce two types of reports –
·          Modular reports approximately every 7 weeks; and
·          Annual reports once a year

Annual reports are issued at different times of the school year for different year groups.

·          Year 7 – June – so that we have a full year of learners’ work before we do our first full assessment
·          Year 8May – to follow up the parents/carers evening held in the Spring Term.
·          Year 9December – to provide information to help inform Key Stage 4 option choices
·          Year 10February – to include information from external examinations and also provide early feedback on progress on GCSE and Diploma work; to inform parents/carers on coursework progress and its importance and value.
·          Year 11January – this includes results from practice examinations held in December and allows staff and learners to take action on any areas for concern while there is still time before the examinations in the summer term.
·          Years 12/13March – this allows staff to include the results of external examinations taken in January.

What do the Engagement in Learning assessments mean?

Engagement in Learning – new descriptions
A
Outstanding
Fully engaged in all aspects of learning. Excellent effort and commitment in class, completes all homework to highest standard and meets deadlines. Is self – motivated, responds to teacher marking and advice. Is a resilient and independent learner and contributes positively to the learning of others. Makes excellent progress towards achieving or exceeding target grade.
B
Good
Engages well in the majority of lessons and makes positive contributions in class. Class and Homework is often completed to the best of their ability and most deadlines are met. Is making progress towards achieving target grade. See above for suggestions as to how to improve still further.
C
Cause for concern
Does not consistently engage in learning in the classroom. Classwork and Homework is sometimes incomplete or missing. Demonstrates limited independent learning skills which are hindering progress. Unlikely to meet target grade without improving focus, commitment and effort.
D
Unsatisfactory
Applies limited and inconsistent effort to achieve target grade and shows limited independent learning skills. Needs immediate improved focus to make progress. Homework is rarely completed and class work is of a poor standard, incomplete or missing. Does not readily contribute in class nor positively influence the learning of others. Underachievement will continue without immediate improvement.

What do ET, OT, WT and BT mean in the progression against target column?

ETexceeding target – this is where your child has already exceeded the set target so the target will be reviewed and inreased, if necessary.

OTon target – your child has reached the set target

WTworking towards – your child just below the set target (by no more than 2 sub-levels) – this is acceptable.

BTbelow target – This is a whole level below target and a cause for concern. You can discuss this with their tutor or subject teacher.
