Snowdonia - October 2009
GCSE geography field trip to Snowdonia in October 2009.
Snowdon trip was very successful a huge thank you to pupils, staff and the outlook Adventure programme and the Ozmanan centre, In llanberris N Wales.
The full three days of activities starting at our arrival on Thursday afternoon with some team building and problem solving activities. Our kids tackled these with enthusiasm including a hilarious blind folded night-walk through an obstacle course.
Our pupils were fantastic. An amazing go-for-it attitude, adventurous, fun, comical, daring (jumping off a 12 foot ledge into deep water at one point!) and at all time courteous and well behaved. The instructors became very competitive about their groups and kept remarking on how brilliant we all were.
Day activities included taking in the post glacial scenery of Snowdon walking from Ogden cottage up to Devil’s Kitchen (see photo's.) Gorge walking was everyone's favourite because it was challenging but brilliant fun, Scrambling through rivers over rocks to squeeze through a hole and plunge into deep river pools.
Night activities included a torch led walk up the Rangers’ Path on Snowdon, great fun especially when the group ahead jumped out on the group behind, very scary. Sitting on the mountain listening in the dark, pupils were using words like peaceful, open and calm. As well as playing pool, cards and of course a little bit of reflection on the day. On the way back we had an amazing tour inside the mountain at the electric mountain power station. The scale was awe inspiring - a bit like being in a Bond movie!.
I am so proud of every one. An excellent trip and booked to go again next year! So year 9 get thinking geography.
