MFL cooking for Success

On two Tuesdays in July (13th & 20th) the MFL team invited some Year 9 parents to join in a cooking lesson in Spanish.  The event was led by Mrs Harris, Ms Hermida and Mr Degueurce.

Students and parents cooked  'tortilla de patata' which is Spain’s other main  traditional dish.  Only Spanish was spoken!  Students had been briefed in lessons.  Although parents did not have much knowledge of Spanish they  followed instructions from a ppt presentation and cooked delicious tortillas.

The objective was not only to contextualize the learning of languages outside the classroom but also for parents to take part in the learning experience of the students.

Parental feedback included, ‘I loved that fact that the lesson was in Spanish so we had to try and speak in Spanish’, ‘ was feeling very much a part of the class. All the staff were lovely and supportive’ . ‘I would pay to have this sort of lesson!’ ‘Thanks so much for this event it was great’.

They are all keen to repeat the experience!

This  was  the second year that the  MFL and  Food teams collaborated on  such a project which will become a permanent feature of the curriculum.
