Welcome to Art, Design and Photography
78% of our GCSE students achieved A–C grade in last year’s exams.
Aims:
We aim to ensure all pupils:
· Explore visual, tactile and other sensory experiences to communicate ideas and meanings
·Work with traditional and new media
·Learn to appreciate and value images and artefacts across times and cultures, and to understand the context in which they were made
·To be able to reflect critically on their own and other peoples’ work
·Learn to think and act like artists, craftspeople and designers
·To develop an appreciation of art, craft and design and its role in creative and other industries
·To make cross-curricular links within The Charter School, and engage with community and national arts based organisations and professionals
Offer:
·We have Artsmark status which underlines the quality of our art provision
·We follow an extensive curriculum during the school day, with many pupils moving to take GCSE Art and Design and then on to A Level study
·We teach all Year 7, 8 and 9 pupils one lesson each week; Year 10 and 11 lessons are three times a week and at Sixth Form students attend five lessons every week
Our Staff:
·We specialise in photography and lens-based media, fashion and textiles, mixed media, art history and fine art.
·We welcome volunteers who have contributed a range of skills and knowledge to the curriculum and clubs

We also work with professional architects, artists and photographers, including working with practicing artists during our special CRE8 week.
Clubs
There are a range of clubs for Years 7, 8 and 9 that run on rotation throughout the year. Clubs have included Ceramics, Photography workshops, Glass painting and Theatre Prop-making.
