LATEST NEWS FROM DRAMA
This year within the drama department we hosted the largest amount of practical exams to date. GCSE, AS and A2 pupils all performed for school audiences and examiners as part of their external examinations. The amount of work and dedication from the pupils was inspirational and really made the staff involved very proud to be part of such creative work. Well done to all involved!
The next school show will be West Side Story and this will be performed at school in February 2010. The rehearsals and auditions will take place in September alongside recruitment for the band and Stage Management. This show is huge challenge for the pupils and will be very exciting to be a part of. We are inviting any parents that wish to help with the show in any aspect including playing in our band to contact Ms Morrell on rmorrell@charter.southwark.sch.uk<mailto:rmorrell@charter.southwark.sch.uk>.
The Key Stage Three drama club this year has grown from strength to strength helping many pupils develop their drama skills and also raising their confidence in the subject. Ms Cearns is currently rehearsing Macbeth with the club in preparation for their performance in the Shakespeare Schools Festival that takes place in October. This will be a very exciting event where many schools across the capital will perform various works of the bard at some highly prestigious venues. We wish them the very best of luck!
The written exams for Year 7,8,10 and Year 13 are upon us. Year 7 and 8 pupils will sit these exams within their lessons in the week ending the 3rd July, the papers will be a recap of all work that they have looked at so far this year. Year 10’s exam will be a coursework based paper that will allow them to gather the initial evidence needed in preparation for their evaluative phase of the course. Our wonderful Year 13’s will be answering a plethora of questions on both Othello and The Trojan Woman which they have been studying for A2. Good luck to all pupils involved!
RADA (The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts) are coming into school on the 9th July to perform their devised version of Hamlet called Battlement to our Year 10 and Year 12 pupils. We are overjoyed that not only will our pupils get to experience a high quality performance but one of our ex pupils Ivano Okwok will be performing in the piece. RADA is one of the most prestigious drama schools in the world and to have an ex pupil attend this fantastic institution is a real honour for the school.
As you can see this year has been filled with great achievements and we are so proud of all the pupils who have worked so hard. The teachers have worked solidly to support all the pupils and ensure they have every opportunity possible. A special mention must go to Mr Tim Spoerer and Ms Lucy Cearns who joined the department this year and who have contributed huge amounts to the development of both the department and the pupils. A huge thank you goes to them and we look forward to working with them more in the future.
