Year 10 as concerned citizens

Year 10 as concerned citizens
As part of our citizenship curriculum in Year 10, all pupils were offered the chance to become involved in the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI). YPI is an international initiative designed to support young people in developing community awareness. Pupils are taught about philanthropy and charity through an experience of giving that highlights the positive impact they can have on their community.
Seven groups made a case for their own chosen charities to be awarded a £3000. They performed in front of an audience of about 100 people and a panel of 6 judges.
Miss Babalola’s group won £3000 for a local charity supporting victims of alcoholism called Mount Carmel, located in Streatham. The team was Hollie Manning, Shannon Quigley, Amy Auld and Damini Patel. The project meant that the school worked with 20 local grassroots charities and is guaranteed a place with YPI next year. Not only did it form an important part of the Year 10 GCSE controlled assessment we were impressed by the enthusiasm the year 10s put into the initiative.
