Geography Overview
Aims:
· To work within the National Curriculum to provide a broad and varied introduction to some of the key issues facing our world today.
· To develop an enthusiasm for the subject and issues studied and a sense of awe about the world in which we live.
Offer:
· A KS3 offer which works in line with The Charter School’s modular curriculum. Each module focuses on one of the 5 key concepts of the National Curriculum and develops one of the 5 key processes or skills—see diagram opposite.
· A GCSE in Geography which engages and challenges pupils to develop their understanding of four areas – Climate, the Environment and People; People, Work and Development; People and Place and Water, Landforms and People.
· A broad and balanced A Level offer which encourages the stepped development of geographical knowledge, understanding and skills and provides the opportunity to meet the demands of Higher Education.
· Geography is a popular option choice at GCSE and A Level.
· Excellent results at GCSE and A Level.
Our Facilities:
· A wide range of resources including text books, DVDs, weather recording kit, maps.
· A computer suite allows ICT to be delivered through the geography curriculum.
Our Staff:
· The geography department consists of four subject specialists with a wealth of experience in the classroom.
· Other responsibilities represented in the team include Edexcel Examiner, Year Leader, and Key Curriculum Leader.

Out of classroom learning:
· Year 7s investigate local area using map skills.
· Year 8 visit to Kew gardens to understand ecosystems.
· Year 9 visit to the Natural History Museum to develop understanding of earth processes.
· Year 10 GCSE to Paris and Disneyland to study the Impact of Tourism as part of the People, Work and Development unit.
· Year 12 A Level to Dorset to develop geographical investigation and research skills.
· Sixth form visit to Iceland to study tectonic processes and the management of natural hazards.
