Years of Outstanding GCSE Success!

EXAM RESULTS -  THE BEST YEAR YET!

GCSE SUCCESS

Our year 11 students are celebrating another excellent set of results. Over 10% of all pupils achieved A* - A grades in 10 or more GCSEs.    95% achieved at least 5A*-C grades with 67% of those including English and maths.  There were also tremendous successes in individual subject areas.   Our E- Bacc is now at 24% - well ahead of the national average and a clear indication that we support high quality learning.a

  • 90% of pupils got at A* or A grade in individual Sciences: Biology Chemistry and Physics
  • 100% of pupils achieved A* - A grades in Astronomy
  • 100% of pupils achieved A* - A grades in Latin
  • 76% of all pupils achieved at least a C grade in English
  • 72% of all pupils at least a C grade in maths
  • 88% of all pupils at least 2 C grades in science
  • 87% of pupils achieved a C in History
  • 14 Subjects achieved 100% A* - C.

As a result students have done well in the Government’s new measure the English Baccalaureate. We anticipate results significantly in advance of the national average. As ever Art, Music and Drama have had very strong years. The school’s emphasis on preparing young people with strong academic qualifications rather than relying on BTECs to boost results has been vindicated. Modern foreign languages has improved results and take up against a falling natinal trend in this area.  “These results again reflect the hard work that staff, pupils and their families have put in over the last two years. Again we are delighted to celebrate many amazing individual results by our most able students. Their results match the best in any school in the country. “ commented Mr David Sheppard.

A LEVEL SUCCESS

Nearly all students have successfully secured a place at the university, medical school or college of their choice.

We are again celebrating some of our best ever results.  98% of all grades were passes with half being A* - B grades. As always, we are celebrating many outstanding individual successes with a number of pupils gaining at least 3 A grades.   Many of our students are now looking forward to progressing to some of the best universities, medical schools and art colleges in the country.
Many subject areas are also celebrating great success.  Chemistry, Spanish and ICT achieved 100% A grades. English, history, maths and Art all achieved a high percentage of A* - B grades.
Elliot Catchpole who achieved 2* and 1 grade said, “I am so delighted with my two A* grades and a bit disappointed because I was ½% off an A* in Chemistry as well!  I am so looking forward to taking up my place at medical school.  That in itself was hugely competitive.  5,000 students applied for just 200 places.
Andrew Batt got 3 As and is now off to King’s College London with fellow student Jamie Young who also got 3 grades.  Isabella Helme got 2* A, A and a B and is now off to study chemistry at Leeds University.    Poppy Austin-Walker says she is still in shock she couldn’t believe how well she had done.  With her 2As and a B grade she can take up her place at Manchester University.  As she said on results day, “work pays off”.
David Sheppard, head teacher commented, “It is always pleasing to exceed last year’s achievements.  This year’s results again reflect the hard work put in by students, staff and families.   This year has, without doubt, been the toughest in a generation.   The result of larger numbers than ever of students applying for a reduced number of places has resulted in grade inflation by universities.   It is testament to the hard work of the students, our staff and their families that so many of our young people have been successful and are able to progress to their chosen university or college.”
