The Charter School

Sir Ian McKellen in school

Sir Ian McKellen enjoying lunch with our Year 12 drama students and staff.  Sir Ian kindly gave three separate talks allowing all year groups to hear about his fantastic career and his outstanding work with Stonewall.

Sir Ian Mckellen is best known for his roles as Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy Magneto in X Men, as well as a host of stage performances but now he is taking a leading role in tackling homophobia in schools around the country.
Sir Ian visited The Charter School, and gave an inspirational talk about homophobia, and how he hopes it can one day be a thing of the past, to many pupils. He mentioned bad experiences of his own, and how he hopes that future generations of homosexuals will not have to be put through this. A touch of humour to his talk lightened the mood and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
